Johnny Depp Tattoos
In Johnny Depp's new film The Lone Ranger he plays the character of the Native American Tonto. One marked visual aspect of Depp's costume is the stuffed crow on his character's headdress. Depp explained that he sees the crow as Tonto's spirit guide. This connection to the film could be the explanation for Depp's latest tattoo, a crow on his right hand.
In reality the actor's new addition to his extensive list of body art has a much deeper meaning. Depp got the tattoo
along with his friend Damien Echols. Echols is known as one of the West
Memphis Three--three young men who spent 18 years in prison wrongfully
accused of murdering three young boys in 1993. Last August, in light of
new evidence, the trio are now free men.
The murder trial was full of controversy and little evidence that showed
Echols and his friends were guilty of the crime. Activists, musicians,
actors, and others including Depp threw their support on proving their innocence. As a result of this Echols and Depp formed a close friendship. Together they both decided to get the crow tattoos as sign of their friendship.
